Introducing Raingard – The Yacht Window Rain Deflecter

Would you like to leave the windows fully open to improve ventilation in your cabin, galley and heads without letting the rain come in? Well here’s a new product that allows you to do just that. It will even keep dew off your windows allowing a clear view out in the morning.

It is called Raingard.

Raingard is made from 4mm thick clear acrylic, moulded in one piece with smooth polished edges. It is hand made to fit individual window sizes and is very simply fixed to the window frame in about 3 minutes – no tools or special skills required.

Raingard has been designed with a profile that optimises ventilation with minimum deck overhang, is shaped to avoid fouling ropes and strong enough to withstand all weathers. Extensive trials have proven its effectiveness on all these counts.

Market News for August 2011

Australia becomes WearAndTearPads most significant market for growth potential. Until now, the majority of our sales have been European based with Scandinavia and the UK representing the largest growth areas. Following the recent decision by ‘Whitworths’, Australia’s largest yachting distributor, to sell our product, sales have shown strong growth ‘down under’. As they enter their Summer season, it is expected that this region of the World will become a major market for us. Our thanks go to all the chandleries for their help in promoting our ‘pads’.

Rope Chafe Damage to Gelcoat Surfaces

Many yachts suffer from damage to gelcoat surfaces around the cockpit, cabin sides and decks caused by rope chafe or rope ‘burn’. Usually this is associated with poor design of the deck layout and it is recommended to look at this before considering other options. The photo below was taken from an almost new charter boat and shows just how extensive the damage can become in a short space of time. The value of the boat was correspondingly reduced.

There are a couple of solutions available on the market, one of which has now been well proven over a number of years. Called ‘WearAndTearPads’, the product comprises ultra thin sheets of marine grade stainless steel in two sizes; 6” x 2” (150mm x 50mm)or 9” x 2” (225mm x 50mm). Each pad has a high performance self-adhesive backing making fitting quick and easy. Unlike the traditional strips or ‘chafes’, no drilling or screws are required thus preventing further damage to the fibreglass matrix. The photos below show two typical applications. Before selecting this product you should check the following points:

1) Is the gelcoat surface smooth and clean of all grease and dirt?
2) Is the application area flat or single curvature? The stainless steel will not stretch around compound curvatures. Consider as an alternative a flexible plastic tape by ‘PSP tapes’ in this case.
3) What length do you need? Longer lengths are available on demand.

WearAndTear Antimicrobial Door Finger Plates

New Product Launched!

Following the successful launch last Autumn of our popular WearAndTear Pads, we are now launching a new product based on the same basic principle. The new WearAndTear Door Finger Plates are manufactured in laser cut brass and use the same high spec double sided polypropelene adhesive tape for ease of fitting.

The main advantages of this new product are the inherent antimicrobial qualities of copper and its alloys (e.g. brass) and its clinical cleanliness – no screws / screw holes and no space behind where bacteria can accumulate and, of course, ease of fitting.
